Wisconsin Dells Vacation

We just spent a wonderful 6 days and 5 nights (Sunday-Friday) in Wisconsin Dells.  We started vacationing there on our honeymoon and have gone back at least once a year since.  It's only about a 4 hour drive there, so it is a very manageable drive.

If you've never been to Wisconsin Dells, it has many resorts that have indoor water parks for winter vacationers.  We typically go during the first few weeks of January when most other families are back to school after Christmas break.  That way we avoid most crowds and have a less expensive vacation...man, I love the flexibility of home schooling!  We stayed at The Wilderness which was new for us.  We found a great deal on e-bay and were a bit worried that it was too good to be true.  But, upon check-in and check-out, all went smoothly and we would definitely go that way again.

We were there at the same time as another family we knew and that added a whole other dimension to our trip.  The children really enjoyed playing with their friends and we had a great time chatting with our friends as well.  The kids all got along great and are already looking forward to next year....I count that as a good vacation!

My mom came along with us (she has for the past couple years) and I highly recommend this!  Having another adult around is such a great help.  She even fed the kids dinner one evening so that we could have supper with our friends...thanks grandma!

There was a great indoor play area that had some super
cool guns that shot foam balls - Joseph (and Todd!)
really liked it!
Esther and me at the indoor play area.
Madeline won a giant stuffed dog (Rocco) from The Giant claw.
Dad helped Lillian win her stuffed cat (Moses) from The Giant
claw...we won't talk about how much they spent to get the prize!
The kids all had a great time at the arcade!
Here they are at another arcade showing off some hats
that they "bought"with their tickets.  I love how
Lillian's sense of style comes across in this picture!
We always go bowling - here's Madeline throwing the ball.
Haley showing off her great bowling form!
A little sisterly love during our bowling excursion.
A very competitive game of "Go Fish" with grandma.
Cage Bingo with Joseph as the caller.
Pizza night - a family favorite!
Movie night and popcorn with our friends - we watched
Matilda which is another family favorite!
Madeline and Lillian at the pool.
Dad and Joseph on the lazy river.
Me and Eleanor on the lazy river.

Now it's back to reality and a full week of school.  I had a great time (in fact, I think I had just as much fun as the kids did!)  but am ready to get back into our routine.

Just an update on the house, we had 4 showings in 4 days the week before we left for vacation and then nothing while we were gone.  Please continue to pray for our house to sell and for us to be patient and obedient to God's will for our family.

God Bless!

Heather :-)

  1. I'm so glad you had a chance to break away from the winter blues and enjoy this obviously fantastic family time! The fam pic with your hubs is so cute. You must frame that one! We were up there when Mabel was a baby - almost 7 years ago - and had a grand time. Although, I know it is much more expensive in the summer.

  2. Thanks!
You're right about it being more expensive in the summer. Which is exactly why we go in the winter! :-)
